I enjoyed your article because it points readers in a direction that emancipates us from the myth of meritocracy. It also illustrates how pro-blackness can become poisonous if we elevate people solely because of their race. As the saying goes, "All skin folk ain't kinfolk." Manning Marable wrote about this issue in his book, "How Capitalism Underdeveloped Black America," during the Age of Reagan, yet some continue to believe the symbols of Black success – though I question how success is defined – are attainable for the general population.

I’m glad you enjoyed it Eric! That book definitely sounds right up my alley — I’ll check it out! It sounds similar to a Walter Rodney book about the same ideas, called How Europe Underdeveloped Africa.
You bring up an interesting point about how success is defined, and by who. I’ll be thinking about that for a while; maybe I’ll write about it soon!
